Jesus said "Let the children come to me" We live and learn and love in His way.
In the Autumn term, year 1 had a PE specialist to help with PE lessons. Ken Adamson helped us to be aware of fundamental movement and following routines with a partner. It was great fun – here are a few snapshots of our learning.
In October we enjoyed a walk around the local area. This was part of our topic ‘All about me’. It was Autumn and we thought the leaves looked amazing.
In December there was thick snow on the ground. We went out to enjoy it in the afternoon. It was ‘snow’ much fun!
Academic Year 2016-2017
Year 1 had a fantastic day at the seaside as part of our thematic learning. We played on the sand, had our lunch on the beach (beware of the seagulls!!!)
We went back in time to visit the great Warwick Castle. We explored the castle, seeing how people lived hundreds of years ago. We were able to recognise the parts of a castle. We also had a lovely story read to us by a beautiful princess and then we got to make our own shield design. Finally, we were let loose in our groups to see if we could win the battle against the maze!
We had the opportunity to work with Y4 pupils and become reading buddies. It was lovely for the year one children to listen to a story read by another pupil. It was such a lovely experience.
The Dentist came in to have a little peek at our teeth. She said we were all very well behaved and a credit to Holy Family. We even got to wear some cool glasses! Take a look…
We invited parents into school to help us prepare our classrooms for Advent. We wore our Christmas jumpers and listened to Christmas music to set the scene. Then each child made decorations, we prepared our altars and Advent calendars too.
In Year One we come together in prayer when the Advent bell sounds. Each day we turn over a star from the Advent calendar and the picture behind it reminds us of a special part of the Christmas story.
KS1 were very reverent during the 1 minute silence in remembrance of those who lost their lives fighting for our country.
