Holy Family Catholic Primary School

Jesus said "Let the children come to me" We live and learn and love in His way.

Meet the Year 4 Team...

Literacy – The Runaways

4Q used drama to act out scenes of our literacy topic “The runaways.” The rest of our class acted as an audience and gave us advice on how to react to the situations we were in! Everyone was involved and we were able to change the meaning of our story.

Science – Electricity

4W and 4Q were able to apply their knowledge learned in class to build electrical circuits. Some children were even able to add several bulbs and even a motor! Well done everyone.

Science- Sound

4Q have been investigating sound and vibrations with Mrs Coyle. We have been taking part in different experiments to see how sound is made, how sound travels and what pitch is.

As a school we have been celebrating the season of Advent. We have been lighting our Advent candles and using our class wreaths every day at 9.05. We have been using an interactive CAFOD advent calendar to help us pray for those around the world who are in need and have been using the spirit of Advent to help guide our prayers.

Snow day

On Monday 11th December Holy Family was closed due to the adverse weather conditions. We were lucky enough to be open again on Tuesday 12th December. Children and parents made their way carefully into school and all t children worked so hard all day. For the last half hour of the day they were able to go and have a fabulous time in the snow! It was brilliant!

Thematics – Inventors

This term, Year 4 has been learning about time travellers and inventors. We have been learning about different inventions over time, their uses and what dates they were invented. We were able to use our knowledge of timelines, to put everyday inventions into approximately the correct order of when they were invented.

Today we went on a field trip around the school grounds to look for mini-beasts.  We used a simple classification sheet to identify and name the mini-beasts, then we described their habitats.
